Transvanilla condemns the legislation passed by the Hungarian Parliament yesterday that restricts children's right to sexual health, sexual health education, freedom of expression and information, and discriminates against many children and their families living in the country.

Beanpole, crater face, bony, big ears, tin grin - just a few of those insults, nicknames that were used without consent. This happens with many people and most of us can leave these behind, overcome or get used to while growing up. However trans women and men can not do that, they have to carry their birth name for their whole life. Even if it does not fit them. An initiative called Name from the Past was created to highlight this issue.

In the judgement Rana v. Hungary delivered today, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) held that Hungary had breached its obligation to protect the right to private life under Article 8 of the Convention by rejecting the application of an Iranian transgender refugee to have his name and sex marker changed officially.
